Our God is Able
In order for us to have confident faith in someone, we must know that person and know their capabilities from our personal relationship with them. Once we have seen what they can do and how they do it, then we are able to tell others what they are able to do. The same is true with God. We may have a small amount of faith in God from reading the Bible and hearing the testimonies of others, but to have a confident faith in Him, we have to really know Him.
The 3 Hebrew young men who would not worship the statue made by king Nebuchadnezzar, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, had a strong faith in God. (Daniel 3:17) They told the king that if they were thrown into the furnace for not worshiping the statue, their God whom they served was able to rescue them from the furnace blazing with fire; and that God would rescue them from the king's hand. Let's see why they were so confident.
They had made God, "our God." That is what we must do. We must enter that personal relationship with God by grace through faith. Then, He is our God, our Father, our Lord. Every day we will live to trust Him and to walk with Him, so we get to know Him more and more. We begin to serve Him, as these three men did. In the process we see God work in the small situations and in the large problems. Our faith grows.
We come to know the power of God and the heart of God by our experience, so we know that whatever God chooses to do, He will deliver us. Yes, they told the king that God might not deliver them from the furnace, but He would deliver them from His hand. They were sure of that, and God did that by sending Christ into the midst of the furnace to keep them from being burned and even the smell of smoke. Also, even if they had died in the furnace, they knew, as should we, that God would rescue them by taking them to be with Him.
