Holy=Different
Holy is an important word. I don't really think most people know what it means, though. Many people think that it means to be super religious like a monk or a nun. Others think that a holy person is in a higher category than the rest of us, as believers. Neither of those meanings are correct. If we really want to get to the basic meaning of holy, it means being different. So even clothes can be holy.
The Lord told the priests in the Old Testament to wear special clothes when they were ministering for the Lord. He gave them very specific instructions. (Ezekiel 42:14) "When the priests enter, they shall not go out into the outer courtyard from the sanctuary without laying their garments there in which they minister, for they are holy. They shall put on other garments; then they shall approach that which is for the people." The holy clothes were different from what they wore every day in the community.
We see this difference in several ways in the Bible. The Sabbath day is holy. It is different from the other 6 days, because God has set it aside as a day of rest and worship. The Bible is holy, because it is God inspired, so it is different from any other book. Our time that we spend with the Lord is holy, because we do things that we don't necessarily do the rest of the day.
However, the main thing is that we are to be holy like God. God is different from the people of this world. His wisdom and love are different. His ways are different. Therefore, the same should be true of us, as His children. We should be different from others who do not know the Lord. We should think differently, speak differently, and love differently. When people see the difference in us, we are truly being holy.
