Mourning and Weeping
Nothing in this life is permanent. We can feel great one day, and the next day we can be very ill. We can experience a great victory, only to have a defeat right on its heals. Our rejoicing can be turned to mourning in a matter of minutes. We can go from laughing to crying very quickly. I know we don't like to think about these things, but it is the truth about life in the here and now.
Job had experienced this as much as anyone has every experienced it. He went from a happy family to only he and his wife in one day. He went from pleasure to severe pain overnight. (Job 30:31) Job said that his harp was turned into mourning, and his flute to the voice of those who weep. What a graphic, true testimony! It happened to Job, and it can happen to us.
Let's remember that mourning is not bad. God gave us the ability to mourn, because He knew we would need to mourn over losing people and things in this life. It is good to mourn, because that shows the great love we had for our loved one. Jesus promised that we would be blessed when we mourn. The result of our mourning will be God giving us His comfort, which is so soothing and healing.
Crying and weeping are not bad, either. God gave us the ability to cry. It washes out the pain in our heart. When God sees our tears, He reads our heart. Then, He brings us close to Him, so our weeping can be turned back to laughing again at the right time. Therefore, let's expect to have pain and loss in this life. Let's go ahead and mourn and weep, so God can pour His loving care upon us. Then, we can start again to have joy and laughter.
