Shattered
I am sure that we all have some things around our house that are very delicate. We put them in a very secure place, so they will got get knocked over and broken. We know that if those pieces get broken, they will be shattered, not just broken. It makes a terrible mess that is hard to clean up. The same is true of our lives, as well.
Job gave a very insightful testimony about himself after he had some time to reflect on his situation. (Job 16:12) He said that he had been at ease, but God had shattered him. God had taken him by the neck and shaken him to pieces. He had set Job up as His target at which to shoot. Why would God do such a thing to Job or to any of us? That is what we need to ponder.
Most people want to live in a perpetual state of being at ease. I think most people would rather not work. They would rather stay up late, sleep late, and do whatever they want to do any time. However, if we could live in a state of always being at ease, that would not lead us to really accomplish what we need to accomplish and to be the persons God intends for us to be. It is nice to have times when we are at ease, but they should be brief.
Because of this, God shatters us. He shakes us, and He causes us or allows us to have troubles. This brings us out of our ease, and it makes us cry out to Him for comfort and direction. In reality, it strengthens our faith in Him, and it causes us to learn from Him what we need to know and what we need to do to really live as we should. That is what happened to Job in the end, and the same will happen to us if we trust in the Lord through the hard times.
