Teaching the Next Generation
Life is a continuous time of learning. We learn from our mistakes. We learn from our teachers. We learn on our own. However, the more help we can get from those with experience, the easier it is for us to live rightly. With all of this being true, the Lord should be our main teacher.
David knew this to be very important part of his life. (Psalm 71:17-18) He acknowledged that the Lord had taught him from his youth, and he was declaring the wondrous works of God to others. He asked God not to abandon him in his old age until he could declare God's strength to the next generation and show His power to all who were to come. David did that very well. I pray we will, too.
Hopefully, we came to know the Lord fairly early in life, and we began to learn from the Spirit all of the truths of God. As we saw the truth, we should have been actively sharing it with others, even from a young age. The more we learned, the more we were supposed to share.
Now, in our older years, we should make it our goal to raise up the next generation in the truth. We should speak the truth to our children and grandchildren, as well as other younger people. This is God's purpose for leaving us on this earth. As we do this, we help them, and we make the world a better place before we leave for heaven.
