Hindered or Unhindered Prayers?

When we pray, we all want God to hear what we are saying to Him, loud and clear. We do not want anything to hinder God from hearing and answering our prayers quickly and completely. However, there are several things that stop God from hearing and answering, so we need to stay away from those things. Today, I want to focus on one of those hindrances.

David was not perfect. He had sinned. He knew that his sins could potentially hinder his prayers. (Psalm 66:18-19) He knew that if he regarded wickedness in his heart, the Lord would not hear his prayers; but God did hear and give attention to his prayers. That was a great victory which we all can have in our lives.

Before we pray about anything, we need to make sure we are not regarding sin or any kind of wickedness in our heart. We must not have any unconfessed sins. If we do, God will not hear our prayers. Therefore, we must ask the Holy Spirit to convict us of any sins in our heart, so we can confess those sins and be cleansed before we pray. (I John 1:9)

Then, if we pray sincerely by faith, and we are not just praying selfishly, but we want God's will to be done, God will hear and answer our prayer. He may not answer it according to our will, but He is God. He knows best. Therefore, we need to pray and submit to His will, whatever that might be. Remember, prayer is a conversation with God, so He can know our heart and meet our needs in His perfect will.
