No fear

Earthquakes are scary. It is a very helpless feeling to have the ground shaking, and there is no where we can go to escape it. I felt one in Japan.  I could hear it coming, but all I could do was sit tight and let it pass. I was not afraid, but just marveled at it's power.

The psalmist used the reality of an earthquake to show us that we do not need to fear, if we know the Lord.  (Psalm 46:1-2) He told us that God is our refuge and strength, a very ready help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth shakes and the mountains slip into the sea. What a nighty God we know and serve!

We can run to God any time we have trouble. He is our safe keeper.  He is very ready at any moment to be there for us, no matter what happens. He is always able to do whatever we need.

Therefore, we should never be afraid. We should entrust ourselves to the One who is in control and never caught by surprise. Even if there is a violent earthquake and mountains fall into the sea, we have no reason to fear. That is God's security for us, so we can dwell in peace all the time.
