The Alpha and the Omega

Many people have much too low of a view of Jesus. Some think of Him simply as a man, a prophet, or a teacher. Others believe that He is divine, but they still do not have an exalted image of Jesus. It would do us all good to have the highest view of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Then, we see Him as He really is.

In the book of Revelation John recorded for us what Jesus said about Himself. (Revelation 1:8) Jesus told us that He is the Alpha and the Omega - the beginning and the end. He added that He is the One who is, who always was, and who is still to come - the Almighty One. Let's absorb all of that for a minute.

Alpha is the first letter of the Greek alphabet, and Omega is the last. It is a great way to say that He is the beginning of all things and He will be here at the end of this world as we know it. There is nothing that has happened which He did not see and understand, and the same will be true until the end.

Jesus is Eternal God, not just a teacher or prophet. He is, always was, and will exist forever. He is truly the Almighty One. He humbled Himself to come to earth to be born as a baby, so He could provide the blood atonement for our sins, and give us salvation when we trust Him. If He wasn't Almighty God, He couldn't do any of that for us.
