Living Peaceful Lives

We live in a very violent and chaotic world. We never know what is going to happen in our community and in our world. It seems like the Rapture could happen at any time. However, in the meantime we should still be living well and enjoying life. That is the great benefit of knowing Christ and having our salvation secure in Him.

Peter challenges us in this area. (II Peter 3:14) He said, "So , dear friends, while you are waiting for these things to happen, make every effort to be found living peaceful lives that are pure and blameless in His sight." That is what the Lord Jesus expects for us to be doing when He comes for us. Also, it is a great testimony for others to see.

Living the Christian life is only possible as we depend on the grace of God and the power of the Holy Spirit. However, it doesn't just happen because we pray and ask God to cause us to live well. We have to "make every effort" to live peaceful lives. So it is a combination of what God does and what we do.

We should be full of peace, if we are walking with the Lord each day. It shouldn't matter what is going on around us. Then, we can concentrate on being pure and blameless before Him. That means we do not allow any mixture of sin into our hearts, and we are right with God and others, so we can't be blamed for doing wrong. As we do that, we are ready for Jesus to come at any time.
