Dead to Sin

Both Paul and Peter were inspired by the Holy Spirit to let us know that when we become a Christian we are dead to sin. I know that is hard to grasp in some ways. Of course, it doesn't mean that we will never sin again. However, it does mean that we do have the power not to sin that we did not have before we were saved. This should be comforting to all of us, as believers.

Pater said it this way with an explanation for us. (I Peter 2:24) Jesus personally carried our sins in His body on the cross, so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By His wounds we are healed. It all has to do with Jesus dying in our place, and spiritually we are crucified with Him, so we are new creations in Christ.

God, the Father, sent Jesus to be born of a virgin, so He became the God/Man with no sinful nature like we have. He lived a sinless life, and then He went to the cross to die for us. God took all of our sins and placed them on Jesus' body while He was on the cross. (Isaiah 53:6) That way, all of our sins were paid for by His death. Then, when we turn from our sins and trust Jesus as Lord and Savior, He washes us clean from all our sins.

He makes us dead to sin by removing our old nature and giving us a new nature and the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is in us to empower and guide us to do God's will. All we have to do is listen to Him and depend on Him to give us power to overcome the temptations, and we can and will do God's will. This is how we are healed by His wounds. We are spiritually healed from sin and set free to live for what is right.
