What Can The Righteous Do?
Sometimes we can feel helpless against the tidal wave of violence and injustice in our land. We can feel hopeless to see any improvement, because the problems are so pervasive in society. Even though we know a lot of good people, who are doing things the right way, we can wonder what can we really do to make our world better for our children and grandchildren, if Jesus doesn't come again soon.
In David's day the situation was much the same as today. (Psalm 11:3-4) He declared that the foundations of law and order had collapsed, and he wondered what the righteous could do about it. Then, David remembered that the Lord was in His holy temple ruling from heaven. He watches everyone closely, examining every person on earth. That is a great truth for us today, too.
As Christians we may not be able to stop the breakup of our culture. However, we do not need to be worried. We do not need to be stressed out and afraid for ourselves and our families. God is in His holy temple in heaven and He is ruling. He is bringing everything to His conclusion for the world. Nothing can stop His ultimate will from being done.
This doesn't mean that we, as Christians, should not try to help influence our world for good. It means that we should keep in mind that God watches everyone all the time. He examines everyone, so He can bring justice either now or later when people stand before the judgment of God. This enables us to focus on the Lord and sharing the gospel of Christ with others. That is what the righteous can and should do.
