Mere Mortals?
People are pretty fragile creatures, aren't we? I mean, we don't live very long. Even 100 years is such a short time in comparison to the history of the universe. We are not powerful enough to do things that last for a long time very often. I can understand why people say we are mere mortals. However, that description is not really accurate, at all.
David even saw this part of our human condition. (Psalm 8:3,4) When David looked into the night sky, he saw the work of God's fingers. He saw the moon and the stars, and he knew God had set them in place. So considering all of that, David asked, "What are mere mortals that You should think about them, human beings that You should care about them? What do you think?
We are not "mere mortals." We will all live for eternity. Yes, we will die physically, but we will live forever in either heaven or hell. This is true because God created each of us in His image. We are the highest point of God's creation, not the lowest point. We are much more valuable to God than the moon and the stars.
God made us to care for us. He delights in thinking of us, when we love Him and trust in Jesus as our Lord and Savior. That was God's reason for creating human beings. He wants all of us to repent of our sins, trust Jesus, and know Him as Lord. Therefore, each of us are on His mind constantly. He thinks of us and cares for us much more than He considers the rest of His creation.
