Turning Only To Physicians
Physicians are a great blessing. Most of them truly have a heart to help their patients in any way possible. I have been blessed by the ways in which my doctors have helped me overcome cancer, heart problems, and other conditions. However, I am very aware that it is God who brings us healing, not doctors.
King Asa had been totally committed to the Lord, but later in his life he ceased seeking after God as he should have done. (II Chronicles 16:12) In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa developed a serious foot disease. Yet even with the severity of his disease, he did not seek the Lord's help, but turned only to his physicians. Asa died from that disease because of this.
God made our bodies. He cares deeply for each of us. He doesn't want us to suffer physically any more than is necessary in our lives. Of course, we will have aches, pains, and diseases, but God can and does bring healing in most cases, if we cry out to Him for His healing.
At the same time He still uses physicians to aid in this process. We might need surgery, and the doctor does the cutting and mending, but God brings the healing. We might need medicine, but God adds His healing power to what the medicine is able to do. Therefore, we always need to seek God for healing first, no matter what other means He directs us to use for our health.
