In Charge of God's Money

The work of the Lord requires money. There is no way around it. It takes money for the expenses of the property and buildings needed for ministry. It takes money to support those who carry out the ministry in various ways. I know it is a touchy subject for a pastor to bring up, but it is reality. God has had a plan for this from the beginning.

In the Old Testament the people gave tithes and offerings for the Temple and for the priests and Levites to carry out the ministry. (I Chronicles 26:20) There were a group of Levites assigned to this responsibility and they were led by Ahijah. They were in charge of the treasuries of the house of God and the treasuries of the gifts dedicated to God. This was a huge responsibility, as it is today.

Just like Ahijah, we have believers today whose ministry is to be in charge of the offerings to the church budget and to the designated gifts given to the Lord's work. We should be very thankful for them and pray for them. They are in charge of God's money to insure it is used as He desires.

However, we are all in charge of God's money. All the money and resources we possess have come from the Lord. They are His, and He has given them to us to use for His work. Yes, we have to have money to live, but we need to be sure we spend His money on ourselves and on others in a way that pleases Him. One day all of us will give an account of how we handled all God has given us.
