Exult in His Holy Name

People have all different ideas about what worship is to be like. They have preferences about how to worship, the songs to sing and the instruments to be used. Even though worship is a very personal activity, it must not be based on our preferences. Like everything else we do, as believers, it should be based on what the Bible tells us to do in our worship of the Lord.

David was an expert in worship, giving all kinds of instructions to God's people. (I Chronicles 16:9-10) God inspired David to command us to sing to the Lord, yes, sing His praises. Our worship should be a time of telling God's wonderful deeds in song and in spoken word. We are to exult in His holy name, rejoicing when we worship the Lord.

The word "exult" is an interesting word. It means to "feel or show triumphant elation or jubilation." We are to have this extreme joy and praise as we sing to the Lord. Yes, He is our audience, not people. We are to praise Him with all of our heart. That is the heart of worthy worship of our Lord.

When we show triumphant elation and jubilation in His holy name, we are trying to express the great character and nature of our God. We are rejoicing for who He is and what He has done for us and others. There is no way for us to sing or praise Him too much. We should let our praise come forth in our singing and actions, so everyone can see His great name and know that we are very sincere in our worship.
