The Ultimate Blessing

 As we complete another journey of reading through the Bible, we come to John's description of the New Jerusalem. It is the place where all believers will dwell with God for eternity. The dimensions and the beauty are tremendous in every detail. It will be the most fabulous place to live ever created by God, as far as we know from His Word. The ultimate blessing which we can receive from God is the right to enter this city. John made that very clear in the last chapter of the Bible. (Revelation 22:14) He told us that blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they have the right to the tree of life and may enter the city by the gates. I pray we are all ready for this blessing that lasts forever.

When the Bible speaks of our "robes," it is a symbol for the condition of our lives. If we have dirty robes, our lives are still corrupted by sin. We are living in our own righteousness, which is like filthy rags. We must wash our robes. The only thing strong enough to wash away all of that sin is the blood of Jesus. We must turn from our sins, put our trust in Jesus and His death and resurrection for us and surrender to Him as Lord. Then, Jesus's blood cleanses us from all sins. We have white robes that are bright and clean. Once we are washed, we are ready for eternity with the Lord. We have the right to the tree of life, so we eat from it and live well forever. Also, we can go in and out of the gates of the city, because we are citizens of heaven. We are set up for abundant life forever. That is why it is so important to trust Jesus and wash our robes from all of our sins. That is my prayer for all of us today.
