Surprise Your Enemies with Goodness

Christianity is very unique when it comes to how we are told to treat our enemies. Jesus was very clear in the Sermon on the Mount. We are to love our enemies and to pray for them. This is true, because we are to love everyone, as Jesus did, and we are to seek their salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. In order to see that happen, we need to hear what God told Solomon to tell us about our enemies. (Proverbs 25:21,22) It may not be what we would expect him to say, but it is what God expects us to do.

When we see our enemy hungry, we should feed him, and if we see our enemy thirsty, we should give him something to drink. Sounds like what Paul was inspired to write for us in Romans 12, doesn't it? I am afraid most of us want to steer clear of our enemies. We may even be afraid of them, so that we do not want to interact with them. However, if we are to show love and lead them to Jesus, we need to step out in faith to meet their needs in an unexpected way. Then, our generosity will surprise them, and they will be impacted by our goodness toward them. This will make a definite impact on their hearts, and we will open the way to sharing the gospel with them. Also, when we treat our enemies like this, God will look after us. He will bless us, because we are being obedient to Him and we are showing love the way He commanded us to do.
