Deep and Ripe

Sometimes, the main thing we think about is living a long time. That is nice, I am sure, but is that the most important thing? Then, on the other hand, we hear about having a good quality of life. Usually, that means we stay well and we are able to think well, so we enjoy our life to the fullest. However, I don't think either one of those things are the most important factor about our life. I believe Solomon challenged us to think about this, and he gave us a wonderful truth about how we can deepen our lives and how the years of our lives can ripen. (Proverbs 9:11)  Have you thought about being deep and ripe? Let's take a minute to do this.

Here in Proverbs 9 wisdom is personified as a lady. The Message translation simply calls her "Lady Wisdom." The idea is that wisdom is calling out for us, so we will decide to follow her. When we do allow wisdom to do its work in our lives, that is when we see our lives deepen. We do not just think in a shallow way, and we do not simply want to have fun. We consider the real meaning of life and how to see the depths of all that happens to us. Also, in the process of time, as we live out wisdom, our years ripen. We don't just add years, but we add flavor to who we are. We become a well-rounded person. The fruit in our lives becomes sweeter and sweeter. I believe I want to live by wisdom, so I can be deep and ripe. What about you?
