Forever Friends

Friends are one of life's greatest treasures. A person who has many good friends is truly wealthy. Friendship meets so many of our needs, and without friends, those needs go unmet, or they are poorly met. That leads us to other personality problems. God designed us for relationships, and friendship is one of the most important. Solomon knew this, and he gave us some reminders about forever friends. (Proverbs 18:19,24) These principles may not be new to you, but we all need to hear them, so we never forget how much we need friends.

All of us want good friends. However, some of us don't know how to begin friendships. Many people think that a friendship is born just by meeting someone and desiring to have them as a friend. I am afraid it takes more than desire. To have friends, we need to be a friend. If we will do favors for others out of kindness and thoughtfulness, that will go a long way toward making forever friends. Those favors make a lasting impression on others, and once the bond of friendship is formed that way, nothing can untie it. I think we also forget that there are friends, and there are true friends. "Friends come and friends go, but a true friend sticks by you like family." Those are the kind of friends we need. Someone has said that if we have 3 or more true friends, we are very blessed. Many people only have a handful of shallow friends, or fair-weather friends. When troubles come, they are no where to be found. However, a true friend is a forever friend. I thank the Lord for my forever friends, and I hope you will stop and do the same thing, right now.
