Reflecting God's Nature

I wonder how we are doing in fulfilling God's purpose in creating us as human beings? I doubt if very many of us have spent much time thinking about this, but we should, especially as we begin a New Year and a new decade. God created us in His image. Because of this we are able to reflect His nature. How are we doing reflecting the nature of God? (Genesis 1:26) Let's consider what that means for a few minutes today.

God did not just make us in His image and then, let us go to distort His image. I am afraid that is what many people are doing, though. He gave us the ability to reason and to communicate very precisely. He gave us the ability to relate to each other, since He is love, and He loves relationships. He gave us the ability to lead and to be responsible for other people and other things. However, with each one of the facets of His image we have the choice of how to us it. Are we thinking and deciding like God? Are we communicating in a way that reflects His nature? Do our relationships reflect how God would relate to others, or are we messing them up? Are we taking our responsibility for ourselves, our families, and our world seriously and doing what God would do? I believe all of these things should be of the utmost importance to us. Let's decide to reflect the nature of God in everything we do. Of course, only believers can truly do this, because we have to do this in the power of the Spirit, or we are unable to really reflect God's nature in anything. Therefore, let's make sure we are filled with the Spirit, too.
