Training in Godliness
There are a lot of people who are health conscious today. We train ourselves to exercise regularly and eat right, instead of having a sedentary life and harming our bodies by what we eat. I think this is a good way to live, since God gave us our body, and for believers, it is the temple of the Holy Spirit. However, Paul gave us a strong admonition about training that we all need to hear. (I Timothy 4:8) There is a much better kind of training that we all need, too. Let's see what the Lord has to say to us.
The training of the body is limited in its usefulness. No matter how well we pay attention to our physical health, our bodies will decline, and we will suffer from various problems until we die. However, if we train ourselves in godliness, there are so many more benefits, and they are good for this life and the next life. Therefore, we need to give ourselves to the Lord Jesus in repentance and faith to begin our life of godliness. Then, we must be diligent to train our mind, will, and emotions to act and react in the power of the Spirit, instead of simply following the flesh. Then, we will grow stronger and stronger in our faith and our spiritual stamina, so we can overcome all kinds of obstacles and lay up treasures in heaven for the life to come. That is why I would say we should train our bodies and our souls, but put the priority on godliness with all of its lasting benefits.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Timothy 5-6 and II Timothy 1.
