God's Promise to Rescue Believers

We live in a day and time with many dangers and things which could scare us. There is a great deal of uncertainty in the world. What will happen to our economy? Will there be another war that involves us or more terrorism? It could make us worried about falling victim to some evil work. However, if we are believers, we do not need to be afraid of any of those things. God has given us His promise to rescue us from "every evil work." (II Timothy 4:18) There is a second part to the promise that we need to understand, as well.

God never allows anything into the life of a believer that He does not permit. God is sovereign, so He is Ruler over everything. He has the power to rescue us from any evil work around us or that He allows to come upon us. There are many examples of this in the Bible. However, there are also examples of God rescuing believers by taking them to heaven when they are martyred or killed in other ways. Therefore, the promise to rescue has two sides. We can be rescued here and continue to live in this world for His glory, or we could be rescued in His heavenly kingdom, which is even better. That is why we can praise Him and give Him all of the glory, like Paul did when He was inspired to write this to Timothy.
