Kingship Belongs to the Lord
It seems to me that many people want to be king. They appear to want to run their own lives with no input from God or anyone else. Some people even want to be the king over other people in their families and within their sphere of influence. This tendency pops up all of the time, and it is not only in rich and powerful people. It even happens with people who have little money and almost no power of their own. My conclusion is that wanting to be king comes from our fallen, sinful human nature. Even in the lives of believers this can happen, if we allow the flesh to be in control, instead of the Spirit. King David knew the truth, and he let us all know who is really the King. (Psalm 22:28,31) I think it would do us all good to think about what God showed Him.
Kingship belongs to the Lord, not to us, as humans. Yes, we do have human kings, but they are under the kingship of God, because He rules the nations. If we fail to follow His kingship, we set ourselves up for His wrath and punishment. Also, we deprive ourselves of His wisdom and leadership in our lives. However, if we follow the kingship of the Lord, we will know that He is righteous, and we will declare His righteousness to all people, even to the generations to come. I know we have things that happen to us that are hard to swallow, but God knows all and He loves us. Therefore, we can always trust that He is doing the right thing for us at that moment. Then, when we look back on those times, we can see that He was a merciful and benevolent King and give Him praise.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 23-26.
