Kings and Judges

We do not have very many kings today, who rule with total authority over their people, but we do have many leaders with great authority and judges who have much authority in their court. If a leader is unwise, it has a very detrimental effect on the people. Also, when a judge acts without following the correct instruction, judgment is flawed and people suffer. That is why the words of the psalmist touched my heart. (Psalm 2:10,11) We need to pray that our leaders and judges would heed these words from the Lord, so our country won't suffer. I hope we will all be praying along these lines.

Leaders need to be wise. Since all wisdom comes from God, they must submit themselves to God and ask for His wisdom. Of course, we learn much wisdom from the Bible, too, so they need to follow the Word of God. The same is true for judges, because the truth for every situation of life is found in  the Bible. It is there, either in a command or in a principle that can be applied to various circumstances. In fact, our leaders and judges need to realize they are God's servants. They are not the ultimate authority, but He is. They need to serve Him with reverential awe, knowing they will give an account to Him for how they lead and judge. Also, they need to rejoice in Him with trembling, because they are humble before the mighty God of the universe. In short, they need to place themselves under His authority and represent Him, instead of promoting themselves. This would be such a blessing for us and for our country.

On this Memorial Day weekend I would just simply add that this is the type of country and society for which many of our men and women gave their lives. They died believing that our country, which was founded on God's principles from His Word, was worthy of their lives, if that is what it took to protect it. I hope we will pray for our country and honor those who have died to enable us to enjoy God's blessings.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalm 3-5.
