The Lord's Generosity
David was attacked by his enemies relentlessly. It was very discouraging for him, at times. He cried out to the Lord in His anguish, and He recorded many of those words for us in the psalms he wrote. However, no matter how difficult his way became, David was ready to trust in the Lord and to praise Him. The reason for his reaction to God was that he had been the recipient of God's generosity many times in his life. (Psalm 13:5,6) I believe God has been generous to all of us, if we will simply stop to consider all He has done for us. Hopefully, then we will have the same reactions that David had, when we encounter trials.
David had 3 reactions to the Lord because of His generosity that we need to cultivate in our own hearts and lives. Since God had been so generous with His love, mercy, and strength in David's life, he was able to trust in His faithful love. David knew that God would not let him down. He could always have faith in God, because He knew that God was so generous. Also, David was able to rejoice in the Lord's deliverance for the same reason. God had delivered David from the lion, the bear, and Goliath, and He had done it so wonderfully that David's heart overflowed with praise. Finally, David could sing to the Lord from his heart, because of the generosity of the Lord. That is why he could write so many psalms as he was going through so many hard times. He knew that God was good and always gave him more than he deserved. Therefore, he had a song for the Lord in his heart and on his lips. I pray we will all react to God like this, instead of getting upset with Him when we face the storms of life.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 15-18.
