Having Our Spiritual Eyes Opened
Elisha was able to tell the king of Israel the movements of the king of Aram and his army. The king became very angry because of this and sent people to find the prophet. They found that he was in Dothan. The king sent a huge army with chariots and horses to kill Elisha. They surrounded the house at night, so that when Elisha's servant went out, he saw the forces and was terrified. Elisha was not alarmed, at all. He told his servant that the army with them outnumbered the army of Aram. Then, he prayed for God to open his eyes to be able to see this spiritual army. The servant looked out to see the mountain covered with horses and chariots of fire, just like Elisha had said. (II Kings 6:16,17) This was not only true for Elisha, but it is true for every believer today.
We have a spiritual realm all around us that is filled with the demons and the angels of God. They are like armies fighting a spiritual battle for the souls of men and women all over the world. God's forces outnumber the army of Satan, and God is All-powerful, while Satan isn't. However, some believers live defeated lives, because their spiritual eyes are not opened to see what is happening around us. They get afraid of Satan, and they give up without fighting back with God's weapons. They do not let the army of God fight for them by using the Word of God and prayer to defeat their enemies. Therefore, we all need to ask God to open our spiritual eyes, so that we see our warfare is against Satan, not people. Then, we need to take Him at His Word and use His spiritual armor, so we can always win the victory over the devil and stand victorious for the Lord. (Ephesians 6:10-18)
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Kings 7-9.
