Convincing Evidence

It is hard for most people to believe that God has raised people from the dead in the past, and He is still doing that today. Most people are not convinced until they have powerful, convincing evidence. That is what happened with Elisha's servant Gehazi. He was explaining to the king of Israel how Elisha had raised the son of the lady with whom he was staying from the dead. However, God wanted the king to have the most convincing evidence, so at that very moment the woman came with her son, and the king was able to hear the evidence right from the mouths of the ones to whom it happened. (II Kings 8:5) I believe this is a powerful lesson for us in a post-modern world.

Today, people doubt there is any truth at all. They think truth is relative. They certainly have their doubts about God and His ability to change people. They will not listen to the Bible very much, because they doubt that, too. Therefore, they need to hear the evidence right from our mouths about how God raised us from being dead spiritually, when we trusted Jesus as our Lord and Savior. They need to hear about our life when we were dead in sin, and then, we need to show them how we are very much alive now. They need to see our new life and how much better it is than what we had before and what they have now. That is the most convincing evidence we can give to someone that Jesus really does change lives.

Tomorrow, I intend to read II Kings 10-12.
