God's Love Manifested Among Us

Christmas is all about love. Yes, it is about our love for our family, but it is much more than that. It is about God's love for us. His love for us makes it possible for us to love Him, and in turn, to love our family as He loves us. That is what John was communicating to us in His first letter. (I John 4:9) Think about how this should impact our Christmas celebrations.

God showed His love to us when He sent His Only-begotten Son into the world. Why did this show His love? He came because we were lost in our sins and destined for eternity in hell. God loved us too much to leave us in that hopeless condition. Therefore, God Himself came down from heaven to become a man, while remaining 100% God. That was the only way we could have our sin problem solved. Jesus had to shed His precious, holy blood as the payment for our sin debt. He had to die in our place. Then, He purchased forgiveness for our sins, and He imputes that to whoever believes in Him. (John 3:16) Then, we have eternal life. That is what Christmas is all about, God loving us so much that He came to give us life. That is what we should be celebrating with friends and family at Christmas.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I John 5, II John, and III John.
