Being Obedient Children

It is such a blessing to see obedient children. They are eager to please, so they quickly do exactly what is asked to the best of their ability, and they do it with a good attitude. If only we could do everything we do as obedient children. We would be very pleasing to God and to those around us. That is the call that Peter issued to the believers. He admonished them that as obedient children, they decide not to be conformed to the passions of their former life of ignorance, but to decide to be holy, as the One who called them is holy. (I Peter 1:14,15) That is the calling of all believers.

Once we trust Christ, we are just beginning the Christian life. Then, we have to live out our faith each day in fear and trembling, knowing that one day we will give an account to God to all we do and what we fail to do. He will judge us, not only on our actions, but on our attitudes, too. That is why we need to be like obedient children in our everyday walk with Him. We have to not allow ourselves to be conformed to the things we used to do, as tempting as that might be. Whatever it takes to flee from those things, we need to do it and do it joyfully. We should be able to do this well, because we know God will be with us to empower and to bless us in the process. Then, we must set our hearts and minds on being holy in all our conduct. That means to stop from doing the wrong things and consistently do the right things. When we get to the place where we can do that well, we will experience the Christian life, as God designed it for us.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Peter 2-5.
