Faithful to Read the Word of God
God's Word is profitable for all people. We all need to know His Word and to obey all of what He has revealed to us. This was true in the days of Joshua, as they were taking over the land of Canaan. They failed to obey God's Word at Ai when they first attacked it, and they lost many of their men in battle. Therefore, Joshua set up a time to gather all of the people and read the Word of God that Moses had given to them to all of the people. (Joshua 8:35) This shows the importance of all of us reading the Word for ourselves today.
The people in Joshua's day did not have their own personal copy of God's Word in a book like we have today. However, they did not neglect to read the Word by assembling all of the people to hear it. I wonder, "Is God's Word precious enough to us, so that we read it every day?" Do we apply His Word to every area of our lives, so we can win victories in God's strength? If we fail to read and obey God's Word, we will suffer defeat as Israel did at Ai. Therefore, we must make reading the Word of God a daily priority.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Joshua 10-13.
