Shout to God in Victory
Most people know the historical account of the unusual conquest of the city of Jericho by the people of Israel. However, do we really think about what the Lord told them to do on that last day, as they circled the city in silence 7 times with the priests blowing the trumpets? Upon the command of Joshua all 2 million people shouted at one time. Why did they do that? Joshua told them it was because "the Lord has given you the city." (Joshua 6:16) Let that sink in for a minute.
The people did not shout to bring down the walls, as some say. They did not shout a war cry as they charged the city to take over. They shouted, because they Lord had given them the city. God had already won the victory and given it to them, so they were shouting to show their trust in what God had told them to do and in what was about to happen. I believe we should be just as vocal, when God gives us a promise and gives us victory in a particular area of our lives or in a pressing need. The shout is our vocal praise to God. It is our way of expressing faith in Him, and faith pleases Him. Our shout is for what will happen based on His Word, not on what has happened. That is why the people shouted, and it is why we should shout and otherwise give testimony to what God has shown us He will do for us.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Joshua 7-9.
