Getting Ahead of God
Many times we have problems because we get ahead of God. Of course, when we do that, it is the same as getting away from God. Whether we are ahead of God, fall behind Him, or just strike out on our own, we can get far from God. It is destructive, and it leads to all kinds of problems. Hosea knew that, and he warned the people, so they would know what to do. (Hosea 12:6) Let's consider what he said and see if it applies to our lives now.
Whenever we find ourselves away from the Lord, we need to return to Him as quickly as possible. In order to return, we must admit our sin of getting away and the other sins we have committed in the process of time. We need to get back to doing everything with kindness and justice. Often, when we are living our own way, we resort to treating others badly either in our attitudes or our actions or both. God hates that. He wants us to wait for Him continually. That means we do not do anything until He moves, and He shows us where and how to go with Him. I know that is hard, because we get impatient. However, impatience is a sin, too. We must pray without ceasing, so we ask God what to do constantly, and we listen for His instructions at the same time. Then, we only act on His leadership, staying closely behind Him, depending on Him for everything. That will lead us to kindness and justice, since God is always kind and just, even when He has to punish people.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Hosea 13-14 and Joel 1.
