Vindicate Me, O God

There are times in our lives when we run into deceitful and unjust people, who are set on doing us harm or getting rid of us. They will say just about anything to slander us, and they will try to convince others that we have been unrighteous in some way, so they can harm us. It is a terrible experience to say the least, We feel so helpless, because there is no way for us to counter all of their lies and back stabbing. David had a lot of that happen to him as the king of Israel. He was hurt by it, but he came to understand that God was the only one who could vindicate him in the face of all of the falsehoods. Therefore, he cried out to God for His vindication against these types of people. (Psalm 43:1) That is the best thing for all of us to do.

When someone slanders us and causes us pain, the reaction of the flesh is to retaliate and to seek revenge. The Bible is clear that Christians are not supposed to do that in any case. So what can we do? We cannot stop them from saying the lies. We can't undo all of their deceit and injustice toward us. However, God can. Therefore, we need to do two things.First, we need to live a life of absolute integrity before God and other people. Then, we need to cry out to God for His vindication. We ask Him to help people realize that what they are hearing are lies and these people are just trying to bring us harm by spreading false reports. God can and will do this for us, when He knows we are faithful. He will show others that what is being said about us does not line up with the reality of what we say and do. Therefore, the slander will not stick. God will lift us up and show others our integrity. That is how He vindicates His faithful ones who call upon Him.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 44-47.
