The Passover Observed
The people of God had actually lost the book of the law, which is the first 5 books of the Bible. It was found when King Josiah's priests were cleaning out the temple. When they read the law to the young king, he was stricken with fear. He realized how great the anger of God was toward His people for not keeping His law. Once he read all of the law, he cleansed the land of paganism, and he started having the Passover feast in Jerusalem, just like Moses had commanded. (II Kings 23:23) This week is Passover, so let's think about it.
The Passover was a feast to remind the Israelites of how God had brought them out of Egypt after the tenth plague. That was the plague in which all of the first born in Egypt died. The Hebrews gathered in their homes, after having killed a lamb for the family, and putting the blood of the lamb on the top of the door frame and on the door posts. When the Lord saw the blood, He passed over the house, and the first born did not die there. The people of God were saved by the blood of the lamb.
Jesus died at the time of the Passover. He was the Lamb of God to take away the sins of the world. His blood was shed on the cross, as He hung there for us, the Perfect Sacrifice, given once for all of the sins of the world. Now, when we trust Him as Lord and Savior, God passes over us, because He does not see our sins. He sees the righteousness of Christ, since His blood washed away our sins, and Jesus became our life. Please, take time to consider the death of Jesus and to thank God for sending Him to be our Ultimate Passover Lamb.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Kings 25 and I Chronicles 1-3.
