Hezekiah, Famous for His Faith
It seems to me that King Hezekiah of Judah does not get all of the recognition that he should for being a righteous, faithful king of God's people in a very evil time of their history. The writer of II Kings assured us that he trusted the Lord more than any king of Judah before him or after him. (II Kings 18:1,5) That is quite a commendation, especially since his father, Ahaz, had led Judah far from the Lord. How will people remember your faith in the Lord?
It is amazing to me that God bases our salvation and our growth as believers upon our faith. Faith is not a work, which saves us, or a work by which we improve ourselves in the Lord. Faith is admitting we can't save ourselves or do anything spiritually by ourselves, and it is submitting ourselves or surrendering ourselves to Him. Then, He saves us by His grace, and it is His grace that enables us to grow in Him. However, the amazing thing is that there is no other thing I know that anyone, young or old, rich or poor, educated or uneducated, can do. Therefore, because God bases it on faith, and we all can have faith, we are all equally able to trust God and be commended for our faith, like Hezekiah was. If we are not known for our faith in the Lord, we are to blame, no one else.
I pray that each of us would set out to be fully faithful to the Lord and to His Word, so that whenever anyone knows us, they will see how much we live by trusting the Lord Jesus.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Kings 19-21.
