The Lord's People
As believers, we think of ourselves as Christians and church members. That is good. However, how often do we think of ourselves as the Lord's people? I mean collectively, as a family or a church family, do we think that together we make up the Lord's people in that place? I believe we should, because it is right, but also, because the non-Christians around us see us a group. What one Christian does, whether bad or good, reflects on all of us. That is part of the reason the faithful priest Jehoiada led the people and the king to make a covenant with the Lord that they would be the Lord's people.(II Kings 11:17) They all needed to realize they were together in being God's people and doing His will as His people.
Relationships are important ! We say that all of the time, but do we really understand that truth? We can do so much more together than we can separately. As we encourage one another in the Lord, we can all be better disciples of Jesus. We need each other when we fall, like soldiers on a battlefield watch out for fallen brothers. We are the people of the Lord, so that we can grow together and work together. I don't think it would hurt us at all to make this same type of covenant today with the Lord, our church leaders and all of our church family that we will be the Lord's people.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Kings 13-15.
