Men of Character
Character is who we are when no one sees what we are doing. It is the values we live by. Some people have good character, while others are very lacking in that area.The Word of God makes it clear that God puts a high priority on His people having good character. We are to be like Jesus, who had the best character of all. The genealogies often refer to the values of the people, whether good or bad. The sons of Asher were called choice and men of valor. (I Chronicles 7:40) That is a great compliment from the Lord.
Bravery is a great character quality. It is especially important for the men of war of any culture. We all need to stand up to enemies and to fight for what is important to us, our families, and our country, even if it means we suffer. Many people today are not brave, because they do not want to suffer ridicule, persecution, or death. There are some things in life worth all of those things. We must stand up for the Lord Jesus, no matter what it costs. I pray that all of us will be known to the Lord as choice men and women of valor.
Tomorrow, I intend to read I Chronicles 8-10.
