The First Sinner
Lucifer was the first sinner. He was a beautiful Covering Cherub who stood among the fiery stones around the throne of God to lead the worship. However, because of His pride in His beauty and all of His responsibilities in Heaven, He sinned by desiring to be worshiped like God, and He was cast out of the mountain of God and became Satan. (Ezekiel 28:15,16) Ezekiel was inspired to give us some of the details of this event as he prophesied against the king of Tyre. The ultimate meaning of this passage relates to Lucifer and his sin. We can all learn from this.
Lucifer was created perfect in his ways, and he remained perfect until he sinned against God. Also, he lived in a perfect place. There were no outward temptations for him to rebel against God. It all came from his heart and mind. Pride and violence rose up within him, and he fought to take the worship of the angels from God. One third of the angels did follow him. However, all of them were cast out of heaven, and they were burned with fire, so they were no longer beautiful.
The same thing can happen to us. We can begin to value ourselves over God. We can be lifted up with pride, so that we think we are worthy of praise, when only God is worthy. Then, we begin to break God's laws and seek to go our own way. It all stems from our hearts and minds, so we must guard our hearts and minds, keeping them in submission to God and fixed on Him as Lord, not us.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Ezekiel 29-31.
