How God Changes Us
God has a way of changing us when we turn to Him fully. The Israelites were being punished in Ezekiel's day, because they had turned from God. He took them into exile in Babylon, but He promised to bring them back to the land when they repented of their sins. Then, He would change them, so they would do His statutes and judgments. (Ezekiel 11:19,20) I believe He still changes people today in much the same way He did then.
God promised to give them one heart. In other words, they would have His heart about things, so they would be unified in their hearts with other believers. He said He would put a new spirit in them. Our spirit relates to God, so we need a new spirit that is alive to God and sensitive. That is what happens when the Holy Spirit is in control of our spirit. Then, He said He would remove the stony (hard) heart, and give them a heart of flesh.(soft heart) That is the only way we can be sensitive to the Lord. If we are hard-hearted, we do not hear God as we should.
When we are unified and alive with a new spirit and a soft heart, we will follow the Lord and keep His statutes and judgments. Then, He will be our God to lead us, and we will be His people, who follow Him. Has that happened in your life yet? If not, go to the Lord, confess your sins, and ask Him to bring these changes in your life. This all begins with trusting Christ as Lord and Savior.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Ezekiel 12-14.
