Woe to Those who Decree Unrighteousness Decrees

God is just, and He expects us as individuals and our governments to be just, as well. God explains many times in His Word that we are to care for the poor and needy, the widows and the fatherless. That is why Isaiah pronounced another woe against those who make unrighteousness decrees that are designed to hurt these groups of people instead of helping them. (Isaiah 10:1-2) Let's apply this truth to our society today and see what God thinks about us.

Whenever we design our court system to favor wealthy people, God is not pleased. God wants us to go by our laws, and to insure everyone gets fair and balanced justice, even if they are needy. When we pass laws that take away what the poor deserve, we are sinning against the Lord. He will make sure we are punished for this. If we take advantage of widows, so that we harm them or take their money, God is angry with us. Finally, when we allow people to rob the fatherless, or we have unjust laws that  take needed benefits from the fatherless, we are in danger of God's judgment. We must be careful to treat all people justly, but especially these four categories of people.

I believe the opposite is also true. If we do all we can to help these groups, God will seek to bless us for having His heart in this world. I pray that is what we will do.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Isaiah 11- 14.
