Alas, Sinful Nation
Isaiah was a prophet sent by God to call the sinful nation of Judah back to Himself. For the months between now and the election in the US, we will be reading the Prophets of the Old Testament. I believe it is just what America needs to hear. We need to hear the full truth of God to drive us to our knees before the Lord, so we can cry out for deliverance. Isaiah started off his book with such a warning. (Isaiah 1:4) Hear the words of the Lord.
How was Judah a sinful nation? They were a brood of evildoers. A brood is a group of snakes. Snakes sneak around very quietly to consume their prey or inflict deadly poison. Many people have a similar mode of doing evil today. Children were corrupters. I believe this means that even those who believe in the Lord had begun to corrupt others and lead them from the Lord. However, if it is talking about literal children, just consider how young children today are so corrupt, and how they lead other children astray. They had forsaken the Lord. People who know better, but they have decided to turn from the Lord, His Word, and His church to go their own way. They are all around us today. All of this had provoked the anger of the Lord then, and it does the same thing today, as people turn away backward from the Lord. They willfully turn their backs on God and the things of the Lord Jesus Christ.
As we see our nation in this verse, we must repent ourselves and pray for the people of our country to turn back to the Lord and be faithful. We must pray for those who do not know Christ to trust Him as Lord and Savior. That is the only hope for America.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Isaiah 4-6.
