The Conclusion of Solomon's Search

King Solomon set out to find the meaning of life, and he tried everything he could think of that would add value to life. However, in the end of the search it was not wealth, pleasure, or hard work that gave life meaning. Solomon's conclusion might surprise you, because it is the opposite of what most people realize about life. (Ecclesiastes 12:13,14) Let's think about it for a minute.

Real life is found in fearing God and keeping His commandments. Why is that man's all? God is always worthy of our worship and trust. When we come to fear the Lord, we submit to Him in faith, and we are changed by His power. However, we must fear Him enough to repent of our way, and trust Him, so that we do our lives His way. His commandments show us how to live God's way. He gave His commandments knowing that they would lead us to the best possible life. Therefore, we don't have to wonder what is the best thing to do in any situation. We trust the Lord and obey Him.

Most people think that trusting God and doing things His way is boring. They do not want to be obedient to anyone but themselves. Therefore, they ignore God and His commandments. That leads them to do all sorts of things in search of meaning. However, they miss the most important things because they want to be independent of God and free to do their own thing. The only problem is that God sees everything that we do, even the secret things, and one day He will bring all of our life's work into judgment. That will be the worst day of life for anyone who has not decided to fear God and to keep His commandments. On that day they will find out, they rejected life, when they rejected the Lord, and now they have to spend eternity apart from Him, too.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Song of Solomon 3-5.
