Evil and Pride

Our world is changing very quickly in some ways. It seems that evil is advancing at an unbelievable rate. We might look around and ask ourselves where to find a place that is not evil in this world. Also, pride is overtaking many people. People are very rude and arrogant to the point of speaking in very corrupt and hurtful language without even having a second thought about it. Where has humility gone? Isaiah lived in a day when Babylon was very evil and proud. God used Isaiah to pronounce the destruction of Babylon by the Medes and the Persians, because He had to punish their evil and pride. (Isaiah 13:11) We need to take a lesson from Babylon, or we will end up the same way.

God punishes the world for its evil, and the wicked for their iniquity. His punishment may not be swift, at times, but it is always sure. God is merciful, so He gives time for repentance. However, we must not presume upon His mercy, and think that we will get off without any punishment for the evil of our country. In fact, I believe His judgment has begun to fall already. Also, God will halt the arrogance of the proud and lay low the haughtiness of the terrible. People may admire proud people, who do outlandish things and speak great words of self-confidence. However, think of the fall of these people. When they are brought low, it is a huge crash that people would never expect, unless they know that God always brings down the proud and exalts the humble. We would do well to heed this warning.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Isaiah 15-17.
