The Generous Soul
God is generous. God loves generous people. Therefore, God is inclined to bless generous people with even more of His money to share with other people and important causes. (Proverbs 11:25) Let's see if we can grasp this truth together.
Generosity is the willingness to share what you have with another person who lacks the resources they need for something that would benefit them. God gave His Only-Begotten Son, Jesus Christ, so that we could have salvation from sins and eternal life. That was the most generous act of all. When God sees us having a generous mind, which knows the importance of sharing, He wants to reward that way of thinking. When He sees that we have the will to help others, He desires to help us. When He knows that we have heart-felt generosity, He wants to bless us with good things. After all, God needs people to be conduits for His resources. The generous soul makes the best conduit through which His blessings can flow to those in need. Therefore, the more wealth generous people have, the more they will give away.
However, let me give us all a warning, too. We cannot give to receive. That is not being generous or genuine. It is selfishness at its worst, because it is disguised as compassion. God hates hypocrites, and selfish hypocrites are even worse. It has to be real generosity, or God will see right through it.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Proverbs 12-15.
