A Prudent Wife
There are many fantastic gifts which we can and do receive from people. I have heard of people who receive houses and huge amounts of money as an inheritance. That would be a pretty nice gift, wouldn't it? However, much better than that is to have the Lord give us a prudent wife. (Proverbs 19:14) In fact, the gift of a prudent wife outweighs all of the other gifts we can get from people. Just think about it.
Some people only want a beautiful wife. Then, when they find one, they spend years in misery, because she is not prudent, as well as pretty. When a man has a prudent wife, he has someone who can give him wise counsel on all kinds of matters. A prudent wife is able to take care of herself, the children, and the household well, and do it without spending all of the money. When God gives us a prudent wife, she thinks about things well before she acts, so her words do not get her into trouble. She does not blow up in anger over little things, or even big things, because she knows it won't really help. A prudent wife is a great blessing to her husband and her family.
I praise God that almost 42 years ago the Lord gave me a beautiful, prudent wife. What a blessing she has been to me and our children. In fact, she has been a blessing to many others as well. I look forward to spending many more years with her, if God wills.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Proverbs 20-22.
