Liberty for All

As we prepare to celebrate July 4th, our independence day for the USA, we hear a lot of people talk about liberty. Of course, our pledge to the flag of the United States refers to liberty and justice for all. However, can a government give everyone true liberty? I do not think that is possible. Governments give a measure of human freedom, but only God can give us real liberty. (Psalm 119:45) Let's hear what the psalmist has to say about liberty.

The people who walk at liberty in this life are the people who seek the precepts of the Lord. What does that mean? It means that we are set free from our bondages by the Word of God. When we seek out the truth of God's Word, and we live by those truths, we experience deliverance from sins and the devastating consequences of those sins. Sins bring bondages of various kinds. God's Word sets us free. (John 8:31,32) We must seek out the precepts of His Word and live by them, but when we do, we have liberty to walk in. We are not controlled by Satan, any substance, or any other person. We have surrendered to the Lord Jesus, and He sets us free.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalm 119:65-176.
