Corrupt Communication
Words mean something. Words can be edifying, because they build people up. Words can be corrupt, because they are rotten, and they do not impart grace to the hearers. (Ephesians 4:29) We all need to pay attention to our words.
The command of this verse says, "let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth." God does not want us to even use one single corrupt word in our conversations and communication. Then, He explains why. God desires for us to speak in such a way that we build up other people. This doesn't mean just giving compliments. It means to speak to others in such a way that they become better people. When we use foul language, we drag others down by making them think it is OK to speak like that. Also, it is God's will for our communication to impart grace to the hearers. Grace is giving more than we deserve. That is how our speech should be. We should give people more love, mercy, and understanding than they deserve. Then, we will have fulfilled this command of Ephesians 4:29.
If this seems too strict, please, remember the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, "But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give an account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned." (Matthew 12:36,37) I believe we need to ask the Spirit to guard our mouths, so that we do not let any corrupt words come from our mouths.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Ephesians 6 and Philippians 1-2.
