Walk in the Spirit

The word "walk" in the Bible is often used as a way to say "live." It is meant to depict going though a day, like walking through a day. Therefore, when the Bible says for us, as believers, to walk in the Spirit, we are to go with Him throughout our daily life. In fact, He is to guide us and empower us all of the time. (Galatians 5:16,25) When we do this faithfully and consistently, there are amazing results.

The Lord promises us that if we walk in the Spirit, we will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. In other words, if we are allowing the Spirit to fill us and empower us all through the day, we will never give in to the desires of the flesh, because He will give us the power and direction to do God's will instead. That is amazing, but true.

Think about it. We are saved when the Spirit changes us into a new creation in Christ. If He can do that, can't He help us with whatever we need every day after that? Of course, He can and will, if we let Him. That is what it means to walk in the Spirit. We submit to Him and allow Him to have His way in our lives. Then, we will do God's will, not the will of our flesh.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Galatians 6 and Ephesians 1-2.
