Speaking God's Word
Today is Easter Sunday. Many people will make their way to church buildings to attend worship, because it is the day we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Hallelujah, He is risen! They will hear a message at most of those churches, but what kind of message will it be? Will it be a message from God delivered by one of His servants, or will it be a feel good message from a person who just wants to tell people what they want to hear? The prophet, Micaiah let it be known that he would only speak what God spoke to him, and he delivered a message that was painful, but true. (I Kings 22:14,23) I pray there would be more men like Micaiah.
Speaking God's Word is a sacred privilege. It must not be an ego trip for the speaker, and it must not be to tickle the ears of the hearers. When we rise to proclaim, "Thus says the Lord," we must make sure we have heard from the Lord, and we are only speaking what He wants us to say. We can all be sure that the teacher or preacher of God's Word will receive a stricter judgment.(James 3:1) Therefore, we must soberly present His message as faithfully as possible. Remember, we are not the chef, who is to cook up something tasty, but we are the waiter, who is to get the food to the table without messing it up.
I pray we are going to church today to hear what God spoke to our preacher, and I pray that is what we will hear. Then, I pray we will do what God has said. That is the only proper response to God's message.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Kings 1-3.
