The Lord's People
At our church we have been learning that God has always been seeking a group of people who would be His people and make Him known to the peoples of the world. That started with the call of Abram, and now it is fulfilled in the church. However, I believe we have too much of a "lone ranger" mentality in the church in America. We need to get back to being 'the Lord's People" like Jehoiada led the people of Judah to be in his day.(II Kings 11:17)
It takes living in community with other believers to really grow in the Lord as we should. We encourage each other, pray for each other, and hold each other accountable. Then, when we serve the Lord as a group, we serve Him best. Yes, we can serve Him on our own, but that is not God's ideal. We can worship alone, too, but it is seldom as fulfilling as gathering with our church family to glorify the Lord.
Therefore, we need to make a covenant together to be the Lord's people. We need to make such a commitment for our good and for the good of God's kingdom. Then, as we live in loyal fellowship with God and our fellow believers, we carry out God's will in His way. Let's decide that more than any other group we could belong to and be loyal to, we are going to be the Lord's people from now on.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Kings 13-16.
